Seminar on American Constitutional Case Law: Freedom of Expression
美國憲法案例專題:言論自由

Professor Anuj C. Desai (acdesai@wisc.edu)
Professor 張文貞Chang, Wen-Chen (wenchenchang@ntu.edu.tw)

Course Number: A21 U2300
Course Schedule: Friday 10:20am – 12:10pm
Classroom: TBA

課程目標
This course is designed to provide senior college students as well as graduate students with a more advanced understanding of American constitutional law.

This semester, we place our focus on freedom of expression, one of the key issues in American constitutional law. We will supplement our discussion of American cases by comparing them with constitutional interpretations rendered by the Justice of Constitutional Court in Taiwan on similar topics. In addition to understanding American case law, we hope to inquire whether -and to what extent- constitutional interpretations of freedom of expression in Taiwan have been influenced by American constitutional jurisprudence and develop further theoretical analyses.
This course is taught mainly in English but with Chinese as a supplementary communicative tool. While students are required to prepare their briefs in English, they are encouraged to join class discussions in whichever language they feel comfortable. Student participation is highly valued in this seminar. For credits, students are required to brief cases and submit written briefs at least twice in this semester (40%) and submit a final term paper of ten to fifteen pages (60%) no later than the final week.
